Government Search Engines

The following are "search engines" which specialize in retrieving materials on U.S. government Web sites.
The vast majority of these pages are identified by a URL "top-level domain" ending in .gov or .mil, although a few Federal sites do not.
Note: Several of the services listed below also pick up pages from state and local government sites.

USAGov

"Official" search engine of the U.S. Federal Government.   Please note that the "Search In" options (bottom half of opening screen) control the coverage of a search.  If you want to limit your search to Federal Government sites, select "Federally Focused."

Science.gov

"Best" scientific and technical information from selected agencies.

Data.gov

Designed to help the public "easily find, download, and use datasets that are generated and held by the Federal Government."
