Description: Massive full-text database, containing over one billion documents from over 18,000 sources, primarily newspapers, general-interest magazines, and trade publications, along with an extensive collection of legal and business publications.
An alternative interface will be made available in the fall of 2009; please feel free to try it and let us know what you think.
Usage Tips: The default search form for our account is "Power Search," which offers more options than "Easy Search."

DATABASE SECTIONS   The red Search tabs near the top of the screen control which sub-set(s) of the LexisNexis Academic database you will search:
General   offers access to a huge array of articles and other sources. Please note that you also will need to make a selection from the "Select Sources" box, where the default is "News, Most Recent 90 Days (English, Full Text)."
News   Popular news sources. Again, note that you also will need to make a selection from the "Select Sources" box, where the default is "News, All (English, Full Text)."
Legal   Default is law review articles, but links on the right (purple lettering) also enable you to search federal and state cases or codes, tax law, and international legislation. Direct link here.
Business   Default is Company Dossier, a compilation of financial and business information on companies, but links to the right (purple lettering) offer access to accounting literature, SEC filings, and more. Direct link here.
People   Biographical information from a variety of directories and other sources.

SEARCH TERMS   There are two basic ways of entering search terms on most search screens -- "Terms and Connectors" and "Natural Language."
Terms and Connectors   uses a set of connecting terms to combine search terms. For example, supreme court AND desegregation finds articles containing the phrase "supreme court" and the word "desegregation" and arranges the list of results in chronological order.
Natural Language   Using this option, you can state your search query in "plain English," without any special connecting terms. You could type desgregation supreme court and get the same number of articles as above, but this time the list of results will be arranged in order of relevance as determined by the appearance of the search terms within the articles.
Forms of Words   LexisNexis automatically searches for both singular and plural forms of words. The trucation symbol ! (exclamation mark) can be used to substitute for several letters to search for forms of a word. For example, child! will find child, children, childhood, etc.
