Reference books are a great place to find background information on your topic. To search for books, use the library catalog Annie.

These are encyclopedias and other reference books that are available electronically. Most of these may be browsed by subject.
These are books that you would have to physically check out of the library. These links will take you to the record in the library catalog, where you can find the location and call number.
There is a lot of rich information in newspapers and magazines. Use these resources to search your area of interest and discover new trends and controversies. From there, you may want to search the more scholarly scientific journal literature.
