Two of the most respected reference resources in academic libraries over recent decades are Readers Guide to Periodical Literature and the Encyclopedia of Associations.
For quite a few years, the W&L University Library subscribed to both sources in printed form. Now, thanks to recent purchases, both are available to W&L researchers in online form.
The Readers Guide Retrospective database is derived from the venerable printed series and lists approximately 3 million articles from about 375 leading magazines, such as Time, Newsweek, and the New Yorker, roughly covering the time frame 1890 to 1982.
Purchase of this database was made possible by the Hal F. & Barbra B. Higginbotham Fund.
The Encyclopedia of Associations long has been just about the only reliable guide to the thousands of nonprofit organizations in the United State, providing overviews of about 23,000 of these groups. (How many members does the National Rifle Association have?)
This database was purchased in cooperation with the W&L law library.
