The Washington and Lee University Library is pleased to announce the arrival of Alston Brake on Friday 30 November 2012 as the our new Digital Scholarship Librarian.
Alston joins us as a recent graduate of the Master’s program in the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill). She focused her studies there on archives and records management, particularly digital repositories and preservation. She also has worked at the D. H. Hill Library at North Carolina State University.
Entering W&L with the rank of assistant professor, Alston will quickly assume a leadership role in what is a new position here at W&L, one that involves “designing discovery and delivery pathways that enable access to digital resources and collections.” It is the type of multifaceted position, involving work with faculty, students, and staff, that W&L and comparable institutions are finding absolutely vital as we continue to move into a world of ever-greater digital possibilities and expectations.
