Three New Databases

The Washington and Lee University Library kicks off  — obligatory World Cup reference — the 2014-15 academic year by adding three great online databases.   (Links below connect to library catalog records.)

  •  Merriam-Webster Unabridged   Pre-eminent source for definitions of words in the contemporary American English language.  Orginally based on the landmark Webster’s Third New International Dictionary of the English Language, but in a constant state of revision and updating, with fascinating features on new meanings and popular searches.
  • Index Islamicus    International bibliography of publications in European languages on all aspects of Islam and the Muslim world including history, beliefs, societies, cultures, languages, and literatures.   Surveys over 3,000 journals, plus monographs and multi-author volumes.
  • New York Review of Books   One of the premier American magazines for criticism of politics, literature, society, arts — and books.  Covers entire archive (1963- ), including the newest issues.

Effective immediately, W&L researchers have access through the above links to all three of these databases, from both on-campus and off-campus locations.
