Awards, Honors, And Prizes

The 33rd edition (2012) of this international directory "describes awards given for achievements in virtually every field of endeavor. Awards are listed by the name of the administering organization, followed by listings and descriptions of each of the awards it offers." This database does not list winners of awards, but provides links to organziation sites. The library also has printed editions.

Encyclopedia Of Associations

The 50th edition (2011) contains information on more than 23,000 "nonprofit American membership organizations of national scope," including categories such as trade, business, and commercial; legal, governmental, public administration, and military; cultural; educational; veterans, hereditary, and patriotic; athletic and sports; fan clubs, and many more. Listings will resemble these samples.

Encyclopedia Of Governmental Advisory Organizations

The latest edition of this directory "profiles more than 7,600 permanent, continuing and ad hoc advisory committees of all kinds reporting to the President, Congress and various other United States government departments and agencies. Active committees are emphasized, but information on historically significant organizations that are no longer functioning..." We have access to the 26th and 25th editions. Here is a sample entry.

Fifteenth edition (2012) provides of over 100 U.S. Federal agencies and their "economic, environmental, safety, health, and other regulatory powers." In many cases, this commercially-published guide offers more analytical or critical information than the Federal Government's own official U.S. Government Manual. W&L also has online access to the 2009 edition.
