Washington and Lee libraries subscribe to quite a few several commercial databases which are especially useful for identifying journal articles, essays, books, reports, and other materials relevant to research on Latin America. Due to the interdisciplinary nature of LACS, different topics would require use of differing collections of databases.
In many cases, you may choose to start your database research with general-purpose databases -- those with broader subject coverage, albeit with much less coverage of scholarly/academic sources. These general databases are listed here.
Academic OneFile and ProQuest Research Library probably are the preferred starting points, because of their size and their coverage of a wide range of publications.
For coverage of South American and Caribbean newspapers, LexisNexis Academic is the best place to go.
Each of these databases specializes in in-depth coverage of a particular subject area or discipline, such as literary criticism, economics,
sociology, legal issues, history, politics and public policy, environmental issues, etc.
These specialized resources, which are the most important article databases for serious LACS research, are listed here.
Additional article databases in various subject areas are available to W&L researchers.
