Excellent sources for biographical information on current or recent members of Congress and governors include the Almanac of American Politics and Politics in America, both accessible from this page.
Another very useful resource is Who's Who in American Politics. It provides only brief info on any particular person, but a huge advantage is its ability to identify all the most important political figures -- elected or otherwise -- in each U.S. state.
You can generate a list of important political figures in a particular state and/or city, and/or in a particular political party, and/or a particular gender, etc. by leaving the "name" options blank and choosing a state.
