Help with infobase E-Books

Below are instructions for browsing, searching, navigating, and printing when using the Infobase e-book interface.

First, click on the "View this eBook" box.

The next screen includes the table of contents (on the left) and the opening page of the book (on the right).

When you click on the name or letter of any section in the Contents column, you will go to the first page of that section.   Entries probably are alphabetically arranged.

If there is an Index at the bottom of the Contents column, you can browse through the alphabetically-arranged entries there.  Unfortunately, there are no links between Index entries and the book's text, but you can copy any page number you find in the Index into the box preceding "of [page numbers]" above the displayed text to get to that page.

To search the contents of the book you viewing, click on the "Search" box, above the table of contents.

  • To search for forms of a word, use an asterisk (*) to substitute for one or more letters. Example:  metaphor* retrieves metaphor, metaphorical, metaphors , etc.
  • To search for entries containing more than one word, combine the words with AND.   Example:  religio* AND colonialis*
  • To search for multi-words terms or phrases, enclose the words with quotations marks.  Example:  "native american*"

You can move from one page to another only by using the left and right black arrows, above and below the text.

To print a page, click on the Print icon above the text, on the right side of the screen.

You may print only the page you are viewing.
