To open the book, click on "View this eBook." The next screen will display a graphic of the book's cover on the right side of the screen and the table on contents on the left side. Browsing You can use this table of contents to navigate the book. You can open any of the chapters by clicking on the appropriate plus-sign, and then click on the desired sub-section title. You also may browse the alphabetical list of entries in the "Index," near the bottom of the table of contents; once you have found a useful reference in this index, you will need to enter the desired page number in the "Page" box near the upper-right corner of the screen. Searching To search for a particular word or phrase within the book, click on the "Search" option, on the left side of the screen, then enter your word(s) within the "Search this eContent" box. Navigating Once you have opened an article, you can move from one page to another only by using the "Next" and "Previous" buttons, near the upper-right corner of the screen. Search This option, located at the very top of the screen, allows you to search through the full text of the database (all entries). Results are listed in order of relevance -- the location and frequency of search terms within an entry. To find entries containing two or more words, simple type the two words. Example: ethics media finds entries containing those two words. Search for multi-word phrases by enclosing the terms within quotation marks. Example: "stem cell" Search for forms of a word by using an asterisk (*). Example: cell* will find cell, cells, cellular, etc. The Advanced Search allows you to focus your search on text within subject areas you specify, to search for the author of encyclopedia entries, and/or to search for words or authors within entry bibliographies. Subject Guides This option, within the red navigation bar near the top of the screen, offers you the ability to display all the articles within broad subject areas. Article Delivery The only way to print articles is page-by-page, using your browser's printing capabilities. This resource provides no separate e-mailing or downloading capabilities. | |
