| Description: | "A comprehensive analysis of lexicon and usage for the period 1100-1500, based on the analysis of a collection of over three million citation slips."
The printed set is available in the library collection. | |
| Usage Tips: | Searching and understanding entries in this resource are more challenging than in most dictionaries, due in great part to the presence of unfamiliar characters within words. The following instuctions address the basics of searching. For more complete details on searching and understanding what you find, see this help page. Searching The initial page offers three means of searching the database -- Lookups, Search MED Entries, and Search MED Quotations. Lookups most closely resembles the type of searching normally done with dictionaries -- looking for the meaning of a specific word (the "headword" and its common forms) when you are fairly certain of the spelling. Please note that you can use an asterisk (*) to search for forms of a word. Example: shour* to find shoures. Search the MED Entries is a broader search, covering not only the headwords and word forms, but also the words within definitions, etymologies, and quotations. Use this search when you are less sure of spellings. Search the MED Quotations finds words within the quotations which accompany each entry. | |

| Description: | EEBO provides digital access to over 125,000+ literary and historical classics. All works are in full image format, meaning that images accurately reflect the way the works appeared in their original printed editions. Besides literary and historical works, the database also includes musical exercises, prayer books, pamphlets, proclamations, almanacs, calendars, and many other primary resources. Funding was made possible by a gift from William Buice, Class of 1961. | |
| Usage Tips: | When complete, EEBO will contain all the works in the microfilm series Early English Books I & II, combining the Short-Title Catalog (Pollard & Redgrave, 1475-1640), the Short-Title Catalog II (Wing, 1641-1700), the Thomason Tracts, a compendium of broadsides on the English Civil War printed between 1640 and 1661; and the Early English Books Tract Supplements.
There are no links to individual EEBO titles in Annie, our online catalog. Searching EEBO is searchable by Keyword, Author, or Title; and can be browsed by Subject. You may also construct Boolean searches, limit a search by source library, language, or collection, review search histories, and combine previous sets results. Viewing Results Initial results include brief bibliographic citation. After receiving them, you can view more detailed records, mark specific documents for printing or downloading, and sort results alphabetically, by relevance, or by date. The digitized images of original pages can be enlarged by the zoom function. Printing When you have the text or image on your screen, do the following:
