Students in Professor Curtis Jirsa’s 2013 Spring Term course “The History of the Book” (English 314) got some hands-on experience with 18th- and 17th-century books from the Washington and Lee University Library’s Special Collections.
You can view the results of some of their work in the course’s Web site. As you can see, students examined, researched, and described three works: Captain John Smith’s Historie of Virginia, Jonathan Swift’s Gulliver’s Travels, and Isaac Barrow’s A Treatise of the Pope’s Supremacy.
Clicking on the title of each book in the menu will take you to a preliminary page, and then clicking on the submenus will provide more historical and bibliographic information.
Questions about our Special Collections can be directed to Head of Special Collections and Archives Tom Camden.
