The Washington and Lee University Library has digitized and made available online a transcription of a Civil War memoir by August Forsberg.
The memoir is available online in the library’s Digital Repository, which collects, preserves, and provides access to selected materials owned or created by W&L and members of its community.
Forsberg was a Swedish immigrant and engineer with the Confederate Army, and his memoir includes accounts of Confederate fortifications, marches, and battles, and his life in a Union prisoner of war camp in Fort Delaware.
The original memoir is housed in the University Library’s Special Collections. You can find information about both the paper and online forms in the W&L library catalog, which also includes a link to the digitized document.
